The Derby Pride Academy will open its doors to students in September 2012, having been given the green light by the Department of Education last November. Derby Pride Academy will be an Alternative Provision Free School, for students aged between 11 and 16 years of age.
The Free Schools Programme allows teachers, charities, parents and education experts to open schools. The Derby Pride Academy's Project Steering Group have been working hard behind the scenes to ensure the school is a success.
In its first year, the school will offer 50 full time placement equivalents.

The Department for Education published Secondary School League tables last week and we would like to pass on the good news that in the most important measure we excelled.
The most important figure in the league tables is the Value Added Score – which looks at the progress made by students in their best 8 subjects including English and Maths
Our VA score is 1033 – significantly above the norm of 1000.

90%
of students gained 5+A*-C grades.
50%
of students gained 5+A*-C grades including English and Maths.
Sixth Form
Again this year students gained exceptionally high results with 80% of grades at A*-C at A Level. With 52% of these being A*-B grade.
Key Stage 4
At GCSE and equivalent we are very proud that 88% of students achieved 5+A*-C grades this year – up 8% on last year and the best ever achieved in the history of the school. 49% (up by 4%) gained 5+ A*-C grades including English and maths - our government set target (via RaiseONLINE) indicates that this is a level of progress expected in the top 10% of schools against the prior attainment of our students. 98% of students also gained 5+A*-G grades. Over a quarter of students gained 3+A*-A grades (27%).
This continued improvement reflects the progress that we have made as a school over the last 5 years and a real shift in expectations within our school community. Standards in learning, behaviour and citizenship now reflect a good school. Our students make us proud with not just their academic progress but with their progress as responsible young people who are going on to further study, apprenticeships or employment and to make positive contributions to their communities.
We have so much to look forward to with our new buildings now rising up on site but also through the activities of our Trust – with students taking many opportunities to extend their learning and to volunteer in a growing range of community activities. Working with committed staff and Governors and with the support of parents, our students are now seeing outcomes which are taking them forward in ways that are a testament to a hard working and ambitious school community.
We are thrilled with these results and look forward to continued improvement in the future.

We are very proud to have been given this most improved school award – many thanks to our students of 2010, their families and our staff for supporting them in this achievement.
