Citizenship Market Place Evenings

Tuesday 4th March and Wednesday 19th March 2014 from 3:45pm until 5:45pm

Can you offer valuable feedback to enterprising young students?

Students from our GCSE Citizenship course are organising a “Market Place Event” on Tuesday 4th March and Wednesday 19th March 2014 from 3:45pm until 5:45pm in the Main Hall at Derby Moor Community Sports College.

The students would like to invite you to come along so that they may share their concerns about their Campaign issue with you, with a view of raising peoples' awareness of it and making a difference locally and nationally.

If you would like to come along to offer feedback to our students on their campaign; presentation skills and research, we would be delighted if you could attend.

Please contact Annette Parker on 01332 772706 or via email: a.parker@derbymoor.derby.sch.uk if you are able to come along on either the 4th or 19th March.

Some of the Campaigns to be showcased this year include:

• Better provision for people with mental health issues
• Stopping Racism in Sport
• Examinations spread throughout the year rather than all together
• Reducing litter in the neighbourhood
• Reducing graffiti in the community
• Cyberbullying
• Helping young people into sport
• Changing football rules to punish diving more effectively
• Should the UN be involved in Syria?
• Effective punishment systems
• Media Bias and Body Image
• Media Influence on Discrimination against certain breeds of Dog
• Poverty in Derby
• Improving Facilities for the Disabled

Read about last year's event

The Market Place was definitely a very busy, purposeful event, which provided the practical element of Derby Moor students’ coursework, worth 60% of their final grade in their Citizenship GCSE.

Visitors commented on the professionalism of students, with Derby PCSO Ruth Barker actually tweeting about the event via Twitter: “Have had a good 2 evenings at @DerbyMoor helping citizenship GCSE students.  Topics discussed included death penalty, gangs & knife crime.”

Duke of Edinburgh Participants' Expedition Presentations Evening

7th November 2013, 6-8pm in the Main Hall

We would like to invite all students and parents to come along to our Duke of Edinburgh presentation evening.   This year, students will be getting involved to showcase the amazing work that they do and the fantastic expeditions that they go on for their Duke of Edinburgh Awards.

Whether you’re interested in a Bronze, Silver or Gold Award, this evening will provide a great opportunity to find out more about Duke of Edinburgh and to ask both the leaders and students any questions.

Refreshments will also be on sale and will be provided by the Volunteering Team.

Year 6 Open Evening

 Thursday 3rd October 2013

6.00pm - 8.00pm

We would like to welcome you to an evening at Derby Moor, where you can experience the friendly, unique atmosphere and see our brand new school building.

We strongly recommend that you attend one of the presentations taking place in the Main Hall at 6.15pm and 7.00pm, which will provide you with very useful and important information.

During the evening, you will also be given the opportunity to meet some of our Prefects, who will be leading tours of the school, starting in the foyer at: 6.00pm, 6.30pm, 7.00pm and 7.15pm.

Ofsted said about our school:

Students enjoy their learning within the school's cohesive, supportive community.

Teachers display high levels of commitment towards every student, reflecting the school's strong inclusive ethos.

This contributes positively to the personal development of all students in the school.

Students interviewed during the inspection confirmed this, saying that, "Our school is supportive to all its students."

Ofsted said about our sixth form:

Students make outstanding progress in relation to their starting points.

Students follow a full programme of study and flourish both academically and personally.
