Year 6 Transition Process
Year 6 to Year 7 Transition Process
At Derby Moor Academy we pride ourselves on providing our new students and parents with a smooth and successful transition from primary school to secondary school. We aim to provide both parents and students with the most relevant and up to date information that is required to ensure that the move can be made in full confidence and with total enjoyment.
All Year 6 students will be visited by members of staff within the Transition Team. We work closely with your child's Year 6 teacher to ensure that we receive all the required information. At the larger feeder primary schools, we give Year 6 students the opportunity to meet with some of our current students. This gives our new students chance to speak to other young people and find out the information that they want to know. The current students will then support Year 6 students during Transition Process and will be there to guide and advise when the Year 6 students arrive in September. We will speak to Year 6 students and show them a presentation about our school so they feel more prepared for their Transition Days with us.
Each year we have three Transition Days where students will have the opportunity to meet new friends and attend new and exciting lessons. Students often feel much more confident about the move after Transition Process has taken place.
Transition Evening also takes place each year and is your opportunity as parents to come and look around the school and meet key staff that will be there to support your child while they take this important milestone.
Finally, thank you for taking the time to look at our Transition information and we look forward to meeting you and your child when you arrive with us at Derby Moor Academy.
