Volunteering & Mentoring
There are numerous opportunities for students within key stage 3, 4 and 5 to be involved in volunteering within the school. These include Student Voice, Duke of Edinburgh, Derby Pride Award group and our Nurture Group who help with the students at Ivy House once a week.
In year 13 students are required to do 20 hours volunteering during the year. This can be in one block during a holiday or split over the weeks during home study time
Students can find information on external volunteering opportunities at www.do-it.org.uk
There are many opportunities for internal and external mentors to work with students at Derby Moor.
The rationale behind the schools Mentoring programme is to empower students from all year groups and to enable them to reach their full potential through ongoing support from either an older peer, support member of staff or a business mentor external from the school.
All our mentoring programmes focus on improving one or more of the following and also compliments various school policies such as anti-bullying:
Attainment, Behaviour, Anti-bullying, Transition, Reading Buddies and Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance.
