The English Department offers a wide range of qualifications and opportunities in a variety of subjects. The Department also includes Media Studies, Psychology and Sociology.
Studying English at Derby Moor Community Sports College is an exciting prospect, with plenty of varied projects and modules that students work on throughout the Key Stage 3 and 4 program. All the teachers work hard to create absorbing lessons.
The Department has teachers of English, English Literature and Media Studies as well as teachers of Psychology and Sociology. We also have a GTP student who works closely with the Department throughout the year. The media technician is also a key member of the team that makes up the English Department.
The Department is housed in Stenson building, with all 7 classrooms in a central area, promoting a ‘team’ atmosphere which staff and students find conducive to learning. The Department boasts a fully equipped media suite, with state of the art editing facilities. 3 of the classrooms have interactive whiteboards. We take full advantage of the Department’s close proximity to the Flexible Learning Centre, where classes are regularly taken for research based lessons.
The Department is proud of the achievement students make under our care, guidance and tuition. Results at KS3 are in the top 30 percentile in the country. Our valued added results show that students make excellent progress between Key Stage 2, when they join Derby Moor, and Key Stage 4, when they leave. The number of students who apply to remain in the Millennium Centre is testament to the enjoyment and value that our students place on their experiences in English, Media and Psychology. Results at AS and A2 level are also excellent.
Media Studies at DMCSC and The Millennium Centre is a very popular subject. We currently have four GCSE groups and three AS/A Level groups.
