The mathematics area is based upon a very committed, hardworking group of staff who operate as a lively, creative and supportive team. There is a strong committment to developing a variety of teaching and learning styles in order to deliver the Mathematics curriculum in the most effective manner and to continue to raise attainment.
The department consists of fifteen teaching staff; two Learning Directors and thirteen other members of staff, some of whom have additional responsibilities.
There are eight fully equipped mathematics rooms, all in one block within Derwent building. All rooms have stockrooms for teachers and shared resources. Four of these rooms are currently fitted with interactive whiteboards.
There is also a very extensive ICT Department, consisting of five classrooms full of various equipment and resources for studying ICT. We have four full classrooms of computers for our very successful ICT courses.
We are very proud of our improving Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 5 results for maths. We work very well as a team to try to ensure that as many pupils reach their potential as possible.
Our Millennium Centre Sixth Form is run collaboratively with Littleover Community School. Teaching is shared between the staff on both sites with Year 12 based at Derby Moor two days per week and Year 13 based here for the other three days.
We regularly take PGCE students from Nottingham University on their school experience, thirteen week teaching practice and their school based inquiry. These students, as well as NQT's, have always felt very welcome and well supported within the Mathematics department.
Your ICT Teachers will be opening their ICT rooms at lunch time and after-school. Please use this opportunity to improve your coursework to ensure that it is the best that you can do. Speak to your ICT teacher for more details.
We are currently awarding "Student of the Week" to ICT students. Students will be awarded with an A1 slip for each nomination and the top three students at the end of the academic year will receive a prize!
You can be nominated by your ICT teachers for effort and/or achievement within class. Each week, student names will be shown on the display screens and the school website. Ask your teacher how you are doing this week!
Mr Oxford is running an ICT club after-school. Topics will include: Wii Sports, Wii Fit, Robot Programming, Web Design, Newsletter creation, SketchUp
